Who is fido?

Fido is the living embodiment of a philosophy believed but not necessarily exemplified by his vaguely neurotic creators, Joanna Ferrone and Sue Rose. Everyone seems to think that he was born when he was doodled on a cocktail napkin. But the truth is Fido existed before he was drawn. He just needed somebody to put pen to paper and get him going. Fido is the future.

In a New York City bar in 1985, as photography business owner Joanna Ferrone and art director Sue Rose sipped after-work drinks, Rose found herself doodling on a napkin. The fellow who appeared exuded guileless confidence, inner wisdom, and a free spirit. Ferrone named him Fido Dido and gave him a belief in the benevolence of the universe to provide (albeit in often unexpected ways).

You might think drawing Fido would be simple. You’d be wrong. Our loose and lanky friend is deceptively difficult to capture. That’s why we’re very happy to have found Mat den Boer. His background animating for Canadian television’s Babar and Ned’s Newt as well as his current work designing and animating for television and video games in toronto give him all the right stuff to help us bring Fido to today’s market.
